American e-commerce giant Amazon has announced plans to create 800 new tech jobs by expanding its Austin Tech Hub in Texas, US.
The jobs will be in fields such as software and hardware engineering, research science, and cloud computing.

Since 2011, the online retail major has invested over $7bn and created more than 22,000 full-time jobs in the state.
Amazon’s Austin Tech Hub general manager Terry Leeper said: “In the last four years, we have created more than a 1,000 jobs in Austin.
“With a strong pool of technical talent in Austin and a dynamic quality of life, we are excited to continue to expand and create more opportunity in this vibrant city.”
In addition, the retailer is planning to expand into a 145,000ft² office in Domain 10 to accommodate the additional people. The office will open in 2020.

Texas governor Gregory Wayne Abbott said: “The state of Texas has cultivated a strong and vibrant business environment, leading to more jobs and greater innovation.
“With today’s announcement and continued investment in the technology sector, Texas will continue to chart a path toward greater economic prosperity.”
Earlier this month, the Arlington County Board approved a direct financial incentive of $23m to Amazon, which is linked to Amazon’s six million square foot office space expansion planned over the next 15 years.
