US phone retailer AT&T has temporarily halted the exchange programme of Samsung Galaxy Note 7.  

This scheme was halted following consumer complaints that replacement phones were overheating and catching fire.

AT&T was quoted by tech.thaivisa.com as saying: "We’re no longer exchanging new Note 7s at this time, pending further investigation of these reported incidents."

Samsung Electronics has imposed a temporary halt to manufacturing of Galaxy Note 7 smartphones though it has not been officially confirmed, according to media reports.

"We’re no longer exchanging new Note 7s at this time, pending further investigation of these reported incidents."

This decision was taken following several reports that the replacements phones were also overheating, reported Bostonglobe.com.

Retailers AT&T and T-Mobile urged consumers to exchange Note 7 with some other devices as probes are underway.

Last month, Samsung Electronics issued a global recall of this device after several incidents were reported involving batteries catching fire, which has resulted in injuries to users.

The phone was launched in August and within two weeks of its roll-out, Samsung issued a global recall.

Although Samsung stated that the replacement phones had green batteries, which are considered to be safe-for-use, there were still complaints from users that their devices were still overheating.

The Galaxy Note 7 is priced from $850 to $890.
