British retailer Co-op has announced plans to open 100 new food stores as well as remodel 200 additional stores during this year as part of its £200m investment programme.
According to the company, the total investment will create around 1,500 new local jobs.
The retailer will establish one third of the total 100 new stores across London, including Berwick Street, Soho, Chiswick, Greenwich, Ilford, Queens Par as well as the South East. It will also open new food-to-go format stores at Baker Street Station and in a railway arch at the Minories.
In addition, the retailer will unveil more than 40 new or improved stores across Scotland including in Alford, Aberdeenshire, Banchory, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Forres, Galston and Glasgow.
The retailer also plans to open around ten new stores in Wales including in Cardiff, Carmarthen, Hendreforgan, Machen, Pen Y Groes, Prestatyn and St. Athan.
Co-op Portfolio and Development director Stuart Hookins said: “This year (2019), will be the fourth consecutive year of opening around 100 new stores, and investing in a core convenience estate which has seen over four years of consecutive like for like sales growth.
