British online food delivery company Deliveroo has introduced a white label solution to enable grocers and retailers to provide on-demand delivery services via their own digital platforms.

Available in the UK and Ireland, the new Deliveroo Express service uses the company’s logistics technology and its network of riders to introduce delivery options for grocers and retailers, enabling expansion.

With Deliveroo Express, customers can opt for immediate delivery while checking out on a partner’s website or app. Following the completion of an order, customers can track it using the partner’s post-order procedures.

Partners manage all customer communications and support, maintaining their unique brand identity and communication style.

They also have access to a self-service tool to monitor delivery status and handle customer queries.

Deliveroo is responsible for managing the riders and coordinating pick-up and delivery.

Supermarket chain Tesco is the first Deliveroo Express brand partner.

The partners will pilot the retailer’s rapid delivery Tesco Whoosh service in Ireland for the first time.

Initially available from three stores in Ireland, Donnybrook, Spencer Dock and Newmarket Yards, Tesco Whoosh taps into Deliveroo’s infrastructure and its network of 2,500 active riders in Ireland to offer an expedited service with plans for extension.

Customers within a 4.5km radius of these stores can now choose from 3,000 products and receive their orders within 45 minutes.

Shoppers with Tesco Whoosh in Ireland will notice an “on-demand delivery” option at checkout.

The service is facilitated by Deliveroo, which is made clear at checkout and on receipts, while Tesco manages all customer interactions.

Since launching its grocery division in 2018, Deliveroo has partnered major UK supermarkets Co-op, Morrisons, NISA, Sainsbury’s, Spar, Waitrose and Whole Foods, along with smaller independent shops.

The company has offered a similar white label solution for restaurants since 2020. It has been adopted by brands including Nando’s.

Deliveroo new verticals vice-president Suzy McClintock stated: “Deliveroo Express is our latest innovation as our business seeks to transform the way consumers shop and eat. The new white label service complements our existing offer, giving partners the ability to integrate our model into their own online channels and maintain autonomy over customer interaction, while leveraging our extensive rider network and logistics infrastructure to fulfil orders fast.

“We see significant growth potential in on-demand grocery and retail delivery, with speed and convenience no longer desirable but a basic consumer expectation. With more grocers and retailers entering on-demand, we are adeptly placed to support them in reaching more customers in less time.”

In November 2024, Deliveroo joined forces with UK wardrobe rental platform HURR to offer same-day fashion rental delivery services in Central London.
